It can burn off Carbohydrates, Fats and even Proteins, as fuel, and provide with that energy that enables you to perform various activities. Your body’s choice of reserve depends on the severity of the activity you’re performing. For normal chores and various bodily functions, the human body likes to burn off Glycogen reserves that are extracted from Carbohydrates. But for activities that are more physically demanding, the body can switch over to your fat reserves or the fat in your food or under extreme condition, it can switch to consumption of lean body mass! So the question is how does heart rate determine fat consumption and what is the <em>heart rate for fat burning</em>?<br />

The heart rate plays an important role in determining what kind of activity you’re engaging in. The body uses other triggers as well but heart rate is an important factor. Physical activity is all about energy expenditure. When the activity becomes more strenuous, your body demands a higher energy and a higher Calorie loss. The energy extracted from Carbohydrates (Glycogen) stands at 4 Calories per gram. Same is true for Proteins as well but in the case of Fats, this energy output becomes 9 Calories per gram. For this reason, at times of peak physical activity, your body switches to a Caloric dense alternative to provide more energy for the activity you’re engaging in.<br />

<p>Now that you have your maximum heart rate, the rest of the discussion will be done in terms of %age of your maximum heart rate. Here are some of the training zones:</p>
<p><strong>Warm-up Zone: 50 – 60% of HR(Max)</strong></p>
<p>This is a very good training zone for people who are just starting with some physical activity. There’s no strain on the heart and the risk of injury at this HR is very low. At this level, 75% of the Calories come from Fat.</p>
<p><strong> Fat Burning Zone: 60 – 70% of HR (Max)</strong></p>
<p>The percentage of Calories that come from Fat are almost the same (80 – 85%) but since the training is more vigorous, you lose more overall Calories from other c\sources as well. Activities like brisk walk, jogging and light cycling come under this category.</p>
<p><strong> Endurance Training Zone (Aerobic): 70 – 80% of HR (Max)</strong></p>
<p>The percentage of Calories that come from Fat fall in this zone (50 &#8211; 60%) but overall, you lose more Calories. This zone is very beneficial for cardiovascular health, respiratory system and muscular endurance.</p>
<p><strong> Performance Training Zone (Anaerobic): 80 – 90% of HR (Max)</strong></p>
<p>The percentage of Calories is almost same as the Endurance Training Zone (50 &#8211; 60%) but overall, you lose more Calories. High intensity weight training falls in this category.</p>
<p>It becomes clear that the ideal fat burn heart rate is in the range of 50 – 70% of your maximum heart rate. You can keep track of your heart rate during your training sessions by wearing a Heart Rate monitor with some sort of external display. This will give you a good idea which zone you’re hitting and what your target should be.</p>

<p>You are not designed to get big and muscular. The only way that&#8217;s going to happen is by either a) you body build professionally or b) you do steroids.</p>
<p>If you want my honest recommendation on the best exercises to lose weight you have two options.</p>
<p><strong>Option 1: Move Some Iron!</strong></p>
<p>Bench Press<br />
Dead lifts<br />
Squats<br />
Chin-ups (palms facing you shoulder width apart)<br />
Pull-ups (palms facing away slightly wider than shoulders)</p>
<p>For simplicity I&#8217;m going to give you a simple routine. Workout 3 days a week and do each exercise twice during the week. Your goal should be to constantly be adding more weight to increase your strength and to be pushing each set to the point where you can&#8217;t do another one.</p>
<p>Prior to starting get on the treadmill or bike for 5-10 minutes to get you warmed up.</p>
<p>The reps and sets should look something like this.</p>
<p>3 Sets &#8211; Set 1 (6-8 reps at heavy weight), Set 2 (8-10 reps at slightly lower weight), Set 3 (10-12 reps at even lower weight)</p>
<p>Make sure when you start lifting weights that you do a warm up set. And if you&#8217;re not familiar with these exercises have someone show you proper form so you don&#8217;t hurt yourself.</p>
<p>I guarantee that if you focus on getting stronger with every workout that you will start leaning up so fast that you won&#8217;t believe it. Working out with the focus of getting stronger with every workout will turn you into a fat burning machine.</p>
<p><strong>Option 2: It&#8217;s Beach Body Time!</strong></p>

<p>Seems scary, doesn’t it but that’s the whole problem. People have redefined what’s normal. Look at like this a McDonald’s supersize meal has around 1200 calories typically.</p>
<p>Let’s put this into perspective. 1200 calories can account for 50–90% of your daily caloric intake depending on your age, gender and body type.</p>
<p><strong>So, if you want to lose weight within a week, you need t to redefine what’s normal!</strong></p>
<p>The bad news is that you can’t possibly expect to lose all the extra weight you carry within a week (Unless the extra weight is around 2-3 lbs). After all, you didn’t gain all of that weight in a week so in reality you&#8217;re not going to lose it in a week, it’s simple math.</p>
<p>To lose 1 lb of fat, you need to create a Caloric deficit of 3500 calories. This means that when your body consumes 3500 Calories less than what it is expending, you can lose up to 1lb of fat. So, if you go for a daily deficit of around 500 calories, you can lose 1 lb of weight in a week and kick start the process of weight loss. So, there’s the good news.</p>
<p>Now the next question is how to create a deficit of 500 calories each day. One way would be to starve yourself, but since we are aiming at healthy and sustainable weight loss, that is not an option. The healthy way in a nutshell would be, firstly, to stop eating foods with sugar altogether. Secondly, all processed white bread is off the table.</p>
<p>Then comes the fat, all fatty foods are off the table. Dairy has many health benefits so you may go with low fat dairy products. Then comes the empty calories that we love to consume through sodas, soft drinks and juices. These things are banned as well.</p>
<p>The replacements are fresh vegetables, some fresh fruits, lean meat (Fish, chicken etc &#8211; preferably roasted not fried). Also, you may have whole grains, unprocessed foods such as Oatmeal, brown rice and a small serving of nuts (They are high in healthy fats so don’t overeat them).</p>
<p>If such changes are made, you’ll see that you’ll automatically be consuming 25–45% less calories. To further improve the deficit we have exercise! Healthy eating and exercise go hand in hand (just like peanut butter and jelly).</p>
